Snowpack
Location: Irwin Aspect (N/S/E/W, etc.): N/NE Elevation: 12,500 Founds some sheltered snow on northern aspects that was still in good condition. Weather: sunshine and strong solar radiation, light winds. The aspects we were on were getting sun relatively early. Snowpack: The overall avg snowpack depth seemed to be 24" or better, with the top 8" or so pretty unconsolidated. Skin Track boot pen was 3-5". There were definitely some shark fins out there, but thankfully not at every turn. Skied two slopes, both in the 32-38 deg range. Saw no signs of instability on the uphill, no cracks, no collapsing, nothing. Saw no signs of instability on the downhill either. Overall surprisingly good skiing!
