We toured up to pump peak today and skied the SW shoulder back to the resort. We found 20-30cm of new low density snow, poorly bonded to a sun crust on west and south aspects and wind firm snow on north aspects. The new snow was sluffing fast off steep terrain down to ice and rock exposing many early season hazards which still remain. Low angle, mellow slopes skied well with the supportive firm snow below. No significant wind in the alpine made for a pleasant day enjoying the new snow!
