Grand Daddy, fan

We went up to take a look at Grand Daddy. We couldn’t see much in the couloir until we got up onto the moraines at the base of the fan, but there are some significant cornices that would dump into both the couloirs. We decided to work our way up the fan, avoiding potential runout zones for cornice debris and found OK/good skiing on lookers right of the runout. We didn’t find any wind slab on the fan, and no signs of instability other than a cornice failure.

We witnessed a cornice failure that resulted in debris running out of gutentight couloir. We did not see the start zone and it did not appear to step down to a slab avalanche. Some small debris ran out of the bottom of the couloir.
