Celebrated the New Year at Ripple Cabin Took some data on the SE aspect of Baldy, then skied down the pitch to traverse to the Crags. BEWARE OF SOUTHERN ASPECT SKIN TRACKS they are bulletproof and have the potential to slide off of on steep slopes. S aspects were wind affected and all sun crust affected, E and N aspects had good snow to ski. Some isolated surface hoar in sheltered areas and lower elevations from the clear night of Dec 31st Baldy SE 2050 @11:00am Jan 1 HS 190cm T-25cm down: Storm Slab 4F (see failure below) 45cm down: Denser mid pack 3F - 1F 75cm down: 6cm Rain Crust K (see failure below) 89cm down: Laminate block P 140cm-B: Dense lower pack 1F Storm Slab CTM19 Break Rain Crust CTH30 RP Jan 2nd woke up to ~5-7cm of fresh snow which lightly reset the heavily skied out skin tracks and faces. Exited with a N drop of Lightening Strike which had some powder but was supportive underneath. No crust present on this aspect.
