Beautiful bluebird day with surprisingly no wind at ridge top

Snowpack

The new snow from the past two days was mostly in place and had not blown around. We dug near treeline on a NE-facing slope and found a number of stiffer wind slabs sandwiched between small layers of facets. Most notable was the knife hard slab formed during strong winds from the middle of the month. The slabs did not extend downslope very far, and bare ground could be seen in adjacent terrain. These layers were reactive in stability test, showing that more recent slab/weak layers will be something to watch for as we get more snow.
