Snowpack
Dug a pit at 11,785ft on the western aspect of Pike's Peak on upper meadows. Snow depth at ~95cm. 4 main layers with finger penetration to first knuckle at 65 and 85cm from ground. Went to perform a compression test and when I inserted my ski, lightly at the rear of the column to start excavating when the whole column sheared near the ground. First 30-40cm of snow are sugary and unconsolidated.
