Weather
Light snow, cold temperatures, and wind. Lots and lots of wind. Coldest I have felt all season with wind chill.
Snowpack
Light snow continued on the pass during the morning and early afternoon hours, but only about an inch of additional accumulation. Since the start of the storm Sunday we have measured right around 10.5 inches of snow at the Red Mountain Pass snow study plot. North and northwest winds continued to move any available snow onto leeward slopes. The question is, are slabs building or is the wind so strong the snow is making its way to New Mexico or Kansas? We turned back while traveling above treeline as visibility was in and out and winds almost knocked us off our feet. Below treeline the new snow has bonded well to the existing bed surface and pleasant travel conditions experienced.
