We dug a test pit down to ground level. Total snow at this location was 215 cm, with 20cm of fresh snow on top. Highly reactive snow at 60 cm on top of faceted layer and crust layer where it fractured. The reaction occurred while tapping from elbow on 7th hit. The very next hit another reaction occurred at 147 cm and we were surprised to see that! We stuck to open trees and valleys not near steep slopes and practiced our riding skills through the open trees. Snow was decent in the valleys. Plenty of fun to be had still in low consequence terrain. Play safe and have fun everyone! I can't recommend the AST1 AND AST2 courses enough. The confidence and knowledge it creates allows you to get home to your family safely. It is worth EVERY penny!
