Coverage near and above treeline is thin overall, and highly variable. Bare ground and large wind slabs in lee and cross-loaded areas dominate the landscape. Some sheltered terrain was holding onto 10-20 inches of cohesionless mixed forms and facets. My profile on a moderately wind-loaded, north-facing slope, revealed that a basal persistent weak layer is still intact and reactive to tests, although isolated in distribution, and buried under very hard, wind-worked slabs. Below treeline was thin and crusty, with sun-exposed areas already transitioning to melt forms or just melting off
