Typical early morning calm and clear skis

A 3 foot snow pit below treeline revealed good bonding through 24 to 30 inches (multiple layers separated by dust/ice). Column broke after 4-5 swings from elbow near base on layer of sugary snowpack. Uneven break. This pit was early in the day and the snow was still cold and dry.
