Weather

Strong winds with blowing snow. Poor visibility.

Snowpack

6-8 inches of fresh snow on top of hard layer. Large drifts on leeward aspects.

Avalanche

Slide was on the east face of the ridge between Jones Pass and Point 12,673. Approximate elevation was 12,600'. Skier 1 performed a ski cut across a convex wind slab and stopped at a rock outcrop. Wind slabs broke loose on both sides of skier 1 who remained safe at his stance. Our best estimate is that the slide was 200 feet wide, and parts ran as far as 300 feet.
