Snowpack

Below treeline snowpack is shallow where aspects face due south. Southerly aspects which face more east and west have a deeper pack anywhere from 30 to 60 cm of snow. Where the snow faces the sun there is a 2cm crust layer 2cm below the surface, and another crust layer buried 10-15 cm below the surface. I dug a fracture line profile at treeline on a north aspect. The snow pack was 75cm at the crown. The snow pack consisted of only three distinct layers, from the top, last weeks storm snow(40cm)was fist to fist plus, on buried surface hoar (1cm), on large facets(5cm) on facets (30cm).
