Snowpack

Instabilities/General Snow Conditions: A sun crust developed in open areas through the afternoon, but no cracking observed other than breaking crust; no whoomphing observed. One inch of new snow on top of persistent slab; wind slabs still evident above treeline. Snow at and below treeline was heavy, but skied surprisingly well until sun crust became widespread after 3 pm. General Comments and Events Discussion: Some pretty lenticular clouds developed to the south and east of Diamond Peaks in the early and late afternoon as ridge-top winds intensified (I'm a weather nerd and proud of it). Saw two backcountry skiers rolling multiple wind slab chunks down a chute within the south Diamond (far skier's right) to test (in)stability before skiing it. Luckily, no signs of avalanche activity were witnessed. Beautiful day at Cameron Pass.
