Cornice Ridge near Kootenay Pass

A snowpack test performed on a south east aspect at 2010m yielded no results. The group triggered a skier-controlled Size 1 avalanche around treeline when 3 people jumped simultaneously on a south east aspect. The terrain was localised and not representative of the overall area. Whumping was heard and faceting was observed in a localized shallow, rocky area. Wind loading was observed in some areas and stiff or slabby areas were avoided. A weak west wind was felt throughout the day. A 10-20 cm storm slab was noted where loose snow had not had a chance to bond to deeper layers.
