Snowpack

Report from the last few days since the weekend storm in RMNP. Dragon tail slid day after the storm. Loose wet, from a point about 3/4 up and entrained most of the lower half of the run. Lots of debris below this. Bed surface is skiing good but the apron is less than desirable. Dead Elk is a field of rollerballs. South face of hallett is in exciting conditions with a large old crown to ski over and a bergschrund esque crack at the base of the headwall to hop over at the bottom. Lots of cornice debris in the flat below this. Corrall looks good and a large crown at the top is easily navigable. South faces have had poor refreezes beside last night but the heat of the day Thursday made them sticky by 10am. Less solar aspects are chalkier and not fully in a corn cycle yet and skiing well. We skied the hallett couloir (NNE) and found good dry snow and good stability. Although moist higher density snow from the last storm sits on top of the dry snow. Lower elevations on the hiking trails are still in but not long for this world without more snow. Mario's gully was sticky and slushy exiting south face of hallett. But still good coverage. Elevator shaft was skied recently and is filled in nicely. South faces are really reliant on good freezes coming up for good ski conditions. North faces are chalky and holding good ski quality, gullies and couloirs in the park at this aspect with significant snow depth are feeling stable.
