Cracking on an east facing slope below treeline was investigated. We found a 35cm slab of progressively F to 1f hard snow resting on a 2cm MF crust on top of Fist hard facets to the ground. The cracking was largely within the upper 35cm of saturated snow above the crust, however in several locations it did break through the crust into the facets below. ECTP 18 with an irregular, non-planar fracture through the facets below the crust. Witnessed cracking on an isolated east facing slope with signs of saturation in the upper snowpack.
