Weather
As expected a breezy day in Rocky Mountain National Park. Snow transport was intense but thankfully warm temperatures made the day acceptable.
Snowpack
In most areas NTL and ATL there is, 120cm+ of snow and a very stout midpack that is made up of what feels like 60 to 100cm of pencil or 1 finger snow (probed). The top 50cm of the snowpack was made up of a variety of crusts and weak layers. On south aspects below treeline there is a thin breakable suncrust. North, northeast and east aspects near treeline have a weak layer that was reactive down about 20 to 30cm (see snow profile). Above tree line was largely stripped of snow back to a very firm surface except for sheltered features that allowed the snow to build up. Wind slabs were small not very reactive and found well below ridgetops.
Avalanche
Both these avalanches looked old. Possibly from last weeks storm or the day windslabs were breaking on Berthoud Pass February 3, 2022.
