Weather

FEW clouds, calm winds, and temperatures just below freezing while I was out in the field today.

Snowpack

The snowpack is starting to transition to a spring-like snowpack. The upper third of the snowpack is moist to wet and consists of melt-freeze crusts and other melt forms. There is a wetting front that is evident about 35cm below the surface, with ice forms present in the snowpack above. There is a weak interface about 50cm below the snow surface that consists of a layer of rounding facets under a melt-freeze crust. I had propagating ECT results on this interface at 27 taps. Below this interface the snowpack is dry.
