Snowpack

Hard, easily walkable crust at approx 10000+ feet. Crust 4" thick. Of course, in the woods, weaker and punch through. At 11600' the crust was only 1 to 1.25" thick, and had to stay on skis to keep from punching through. Below the crust the snow was sugary and damp but not wet, suggesting that even on the south slopes daytime temps were too low to cause much melt. No natural releases observed high on Independence Pass.
