Warm day. Slopes which face the sun developed a 3cm wet surface.

I dug a quick pit on a southeast aspect below treeline which had multiple thin melt freeze crust layers (attached pit). Probing more east aspects, the crust layers are nonexistent. The weak facet and early January snow interface is buried around 100cm deep. This layer is becoming harder to trigger, but if you find the right weak spot, the slide could be large and destructive.
