Snowpack
Solar gain affecting surface snow on south and west aspects. No collapsing or cracking. Surface Hoar present at all below tree line locations, although the sun was an agent of destruction of surface hoar on sunny aspects. Settled powder conditions present on shady or sun dappled aspects...approximately 4". Overall, surface conditions are becoming more variable.
Avalanche
Wet loose avalanches were present in numerous gullies in Officers Gulch. Roller balls were releasing on sunny aspects on steep, south facing aspect on the Uneva massif. Very interesting for early January.
