We rode a very popular area that had a nice layer fresh 10cm from the past 24hrs. The day was breezy with’ mild temps. We found buried surface hoar in sheltered areas. I was hoping to see some whumphing but on solar, wind affects aspects it was harder to find. Stability was good in this area but we stayed clear of north aspects where surface hoar is Most likely lurking and easier to trigger.
Snowpack
The surface hoar on south aspects is variable. In one sheltered area behind trees we did observe it after our orignal pit that we dug that showed no results on the same aspect at the same elevation but just in a more open exposed area to solar and wind affect. Shown in pic with the Gordon Sidney cabin in the background.
