AST 2 Course obs today: Weather: Mix of Sun and clouds, temps at treeline -5c, winds L from south, picked up to Moderate westerlies later in afternoon Snowpack: 20cm of new snow from yesterday, brings recent storm snow amounts to @ 50cm in this area. Wind affected surfaces and loading in upper treeline and alpine. Avalanches: we saw several natural avalanches in steep East aspect alpine terrain, lee to previous winds, size 1-2. Crowns were thin, 10-20cm, and did not propagate very wide, 20-40m. We were able to intentionally trigger some thin size 1 windslabs on small test slopes, also east aspects.
