Broken to scattered clouds throughout the afternoon with no precipitation and moderate to strong wind from the W & SW with moderate to intense blowing snow. Air temps at the TH hovered in the low 20s. The storm total for this last system was about ~25cm in sheltered locations.
Snowpack
At the TH, HS was about 25cm, but as we ascended to 10.8k, HS increased to 70cm on a N slope. Boot pen went to ground (70cm) and ski pen was 10cm. We found about 25cm of basal facets below 45cm of fist to 4F new snow. We triggered numerous large whumphs anytime we traveled off of the skin track. Above tree line at ~11.4k, we found a HS of 96cm on a NE slope in an obviously wind affected area. Boot pen was 20cm and ski pen was 10. We did trigger a whumph slightly below this elevation while ascending back up. In this location there was 20cm of basal facets below 76cm of 1F wind packed particles. We found isolated pockets of 1-5cm wind affected layers on the surface that were stubborn to trigger.
