Exploratory mission in the E Castle. Coverage was okay in the trees and very marginal above treeline (only following the creek provided enough coverage for travel). Investigated a north aspect (30-35 degrees?) where we found reactive wind slabs, 5-15cm thick overlying a 10cm layer of facets and a bullet-proof crust. Whumphing and shooting cracks led to a retreat and a few decent turns before an adventurous ski out. Moderately strong winds and sunny skies made for the most spring like day of touring so far.
