Lower elevation (below 1800m) snow was pretty aweful, wet and heavy with minimal bonding to the impenetrable crust below. From around 100m above the tunnel creek hut snow quality improved drastically, very dry, around 30cm on the morning of the 20th. This snow was also very poorly bonded to the crust layer, however we didn’t find any areas where snow was slabby, all very loose and unconsolidated. We saw no evidence of recent slab avalanches in the alpine however there had been a lot of sluffing on steep slopes over night. We skied some steeper slopes and triggered some reasonably significant sluffs ourselves but no slabs. Lower elevation conditions rapidly deteriorated below around 1800m
