Clear, bluebird day with above freezing temps and light winds.
Snowpack
A good freeze Wednesday night made for supportable surfaces in the early hours on all aspects and elevations. The highest northerly aspects still have cold snow. Southerly aspects have baked off a lot, and wet loose slides were confined to shallow surface snow. By afternoon the surfaces had become moist or wet below tree line and near tree line. HS on an E aspect in the upper BTL zone at 11,300’ was 185cm. A prominent facet layer sitting above a hard temperature crust 30cm below the surface had become saturated by afternoon and was failing easily in hand tests and on small test slopes
Avalanche
Many wet-loose on upper elevation E aspects, some gouging more deeply than on Wednesday. A very small wet slab on a SE aspect ATL was triggered by a wet loose in a wind drifted feature in a rocky area.
