This morning it felt like the return of winter out at Fraser camp with overcast skies, -6c and light sw winds. After 1500 the skies started to clear, sw winds picked up and were transporting snow at ridgetop. Alpine temps rose to -2c and the sun started to pack a punch. Below 1400m it was crusty travel with ski crampons or boot packing. Above 1400m 5-10cm of new snow sits on top of old melt freeze / sun crusts. We saw a recent natural wet slab avalanche on a south aspect above fraser lake which started in the alpine and ran down to the lake. We chose our terrain so we could be off south aspects before the sun warmed up the slope. The recent natural activity reminded us that if we're traveling on a slope that hasn’t slid yet, it has the potential to slide as the sun warms up the slope.
