Went up Numa creek to try and shelter from the wind. Noticed a recent size 2 E aspect that ran likely overnight and another size 2 ran W aspect while we were skinning up the creek and almost covered our uptrack. Debris piles were at least 2m deep. Unclear what triggered the W avi but suspect solar combined with wind - it definitely entrained everything to ground (rock)and wiped out some old ski tracks. Of note, the entire area seems to have suffered from the cold spell and has facetted significantly. Went partway up the ridge to access Numa North chute and try and get some turns - strong+ winds on the ridge, burnt timber was heard crashing down up the valley, lots of transport going on, wind skin developing that will turn to slab with more input and minor cracking. Chute itself wasn’t in great shape - terrain trap galore, facets, some wind effect, ice, lots of ski tracks, etc. Lots of debris littering the snow from the strong winds everywhere. Area needs a refresh and we’ll be keeping an eye out for that facetted snow once it gets buried ...
