We stayed at and below tree line as the light was flat and there was more wind and wind affected snow as we got above trees. The snow in the area we skied between 1000 &1100m was excellent for skiing.

We dug a pit at 1000 m E aspect in a small windloaded SE facing feature, and found the first 30 cm of new snow, with easy level 1 penetration, then a 2 cm crust with 2 cm faceted snow under the crust, then 70 cm of hard, consolidated snow under that, level 4 penetration becoming less penetrable the deeper we went. In the column compression test, we found a layer at 10cm in the new snow that collapsed after 10 wrist and 2 elbow taps, then the faceted layer we found earlier collapsed after 6 shoulder taps
