Snowpack

Wide spread surface hoar. Top layer of snow composed of 4-6" of unconsolidated facets, sitting on an approximately 18' stiff slab. Pockets of widely dispersed unconsolidated likely faceted snow sitting on the ground was identified by pole probing along the route. The snow pack is currently exhibiting little instability but this could change quickly if the surface hoar is soon buried by another storm.
