Snowpack
SNowpack had been windpacked into a pretty hard slab. Depth of wind loaded slab was approx. 8 feet thick at fracture, with the slab thinning down lower on the slope. Minimum slab was 12" thick near bottom and averaged 4 feet thick near middle of slide

Several other avalanches were noted in the Vasquez Bowl area to the north
