Weather
Heavy south and southwest winds had loaded the north facing above tree line slope for more than a week with a lot of fresh snow. Cold below 0, west wind 15-20mph and mixed visibility
Snowpack
Historic snowfall and wind event heavily loaded north slopes at the ridgeline. Cornices and thick wind slabs were ripe for large and destructive avalanches.
Avalanche
Multiple avalanches triggered as our first member crossed underneath the path outside of the potential run out. Member made an additional pass somewhat closer outside of potential runout without further remote triggers. We played around boondocking in less hazardous terrain and left. We estimated potential 20’ crown, 100-200’ wide 300’ vertical.
