Snowpack

Snow storm on 10/10/18 laid the basal layer of the snowpack. A larger storm brought in the top layer of snow. The top layer was 3-4 feet in the crown of the avalanche. The new storm slab was windloaded and slid on the earlier layer.

Avalanche

Medium storm slab avalanche. 40.0096, -105.6525 11,400 feet South aspect. (199 degrees) 10:30 am 35 degree slope As I traversed the convex roller, I postholed, which initiated the separation of the storm slab. The avalanche propagated away from me, to the east. The snow carried me down about 150 feet, taking me over two cliffs of about 10 and 15 feet. The majority of the debris traveled down a gully, which I did not get carried down.
