Weather

2 inches of new snow, calm winds

Snowpack

The snowpack in areas above treeline where I observed numerous whumpfs consists of a 15 to 25 cm hard slab of snow (pencil hard) over 15 to 20 cm of fist hard faceted snow. In some places there were two distinct wind drifted slabs with a thin faceted layer in between, but still a thick layer of 2 mm facets near the ground. The slabs that I found were about 20 to 50 feet wide and not connected to any terrain outside of the specific feature. In otherwords, the slab isn't connected across the terrain and multiple terrain features...yet.

Avalanche

One pocket of snow moved about 20 to 30 feet downhill.
