Weather

High scattered clouds and warming throughout the morning. Wind was light from the west southwest with periods of calm.

Snowpack

The snow surface is faceting under the recent cold, clear weather. December's mid-pack slab is now fairly resistant at 1 finger hardness while the snow from the November dry spell is very weak depth hoar sitting on facets and melt-freeze crusts from October. Slab over a weak layer over a bed surface. Long column test produced propagating results on the 13th tap (ECTP13 down 66cm on 4mm DH). Ski penetration is 10 cms while boot penetration is 30 cms. I felt and heard a rumbling collapse while touring near the Skyway weather station. I initiated this collapse on egress on my return trip in the same skin track.
