Weather
The day started clear and sunny. High thin clouds moved in mid-day which helped to keep snow surfaces cool. Light winds at higher elevations with light wind-loading on NE-E slopes.
Snowpack
Below-treeline the snowpack remains weak but recent storms and snow load have formed a supportable mid-pack that has improved travel. "Trapdoor" conditions are decreasing, but sunny slopes have formed nasty crusts that remain breakable. Near and above-treeline, the snowpack is becoming deeper, especially in wind-drifted areas. In areas with HS greater than 120cm, the weak facets and DH at the bottom of the snowpack are starting to sinter, but remain weak. Slabs of 4f to 1f are forming above, and slopes with significant wind-loading look primed for avalanches. No cracking or collapses observed. 3-5" of new snow from recent storm.
Avalanche
One large natural avalanche was observed off the north ridge of Buckeye Peak. Looked to be triggered by cornice failure.
