Snowpack

1300 hrs, 12/9/2017, Cameron Pass: A snow pit of approximately 1 m in depth revealed faceted grains between 2 mm and 3 mm in size in the deepest, ground-level layer. During an extended column test, a small fracture occurred at an interface separating a 1F layer and a 4F layer directly above it. The fracture initiated at ECT-22 but did not propagate across the column. Sloughing of the surface layer of recent storm snow occurred on the steepest portion of the slope when making turns. No cracking or collapsing was observed during our tour. Aspect: NE Elevation: Near treeline
