Snowpack
Quick, easy and clean hand shears found on South, East and North Aspects. East Aspect; 12,000ft; 35 degree slope: found three reactive layers in the upper 45 cm of the snowpack, each involving burried surface hoar layers. 200cm snowpack. Most reactive was the top 18cm: CT6 Q1. The weak layer was the burried surface hoar, bed was a 2cm crust below. The second 16cm failed at CT10 Q1 and the third 16cm failed at CT11 Q2. Step down anyone? The midpack was solid, which we could not get to fail, period. Hand shears on protected north jumped cleanly with 2 taps.
