Weather

Light snowfall in the a.m., with moderate snowfall in the afternoon and clearing skies in the evening; new snow accumulations of 2-3”. Light west winds, with some moderate gusts.

Snowpack

The new snow (~6-9”) was very incohesive, with the only slabbiness observed along the ridgeline. On NE aspects, the usual suspects: December’s storm snow of about 2 feet resting on top of weak facets with a deteriorating crust at the bottom. On S to SW aspects, the new low density snow rests on a supportable meltfreeze crust (1-2” thick) that formed last Wednesday/Thursay, with only the December 8th snow below (1-5” thick) and then ground. We skied steep terrain on this aspect with the only concern being small sluffs and no signs of instability.
