Weather

Unsettled, variable weather all day, thanks to frontal passage. Mid morning, clouds were well below peaks and an S1 graupel shower put down 1-2 cm more snow. Winds were variable. Midday, the clouds were breaking up, and snow showers were visible elsewhere in the upper Crystal River. Winds were moderate and gusty. By mid-afternoon, winds had veered to the north and were steady and moderate with strong gusts.Uptrack and turns were filling in and blowing snow was visible occasionally below treeline.

Snowpack

6-12 cm fresh snow on supportable (skis and boots) crusts nearly all slopes. Skinning difficult on steep sidehills.

Avalanche

Triggered s-facing drift at top of Marble Peak from about 15' away. Harmless due to size and location.up to 30 cm thick and 4 F hard.
