Snowpack

Drove up to Skyway after work today @ 1600 hrs. and it was raining all the way up to about the 10,000’ foot level. Very foggy (100’ visibility) from 8900’ to 10,000’. At Skyway it was sleeting and the air temp. was .1c (32.2f). The CDOT snow stake was showing 36”. The parking lot at Skyway was soaked and muddy so I figure it had rained up there most of the day. On the way up I saw some recent snow movement (Settling and Gliding, I think) and a lot of wet (natural) snowballs, especially just below Skyway along the rock band (40* +). There were two small slides observed (20’-30’ across and running only about 50’) around the 9500’ level. The snow itself was very wet and heavy all the way through the pack, and was almost fluid like in places.
