The area has received a much needed refresh of about 10cm of new snow, which made for some decent skiing! This new snow is covering a layer of surface hoar, and in many locations also a crust created by the sun and warm temperatures from the last few days. As more snow falls on this layer it is unlikely to bond well and may become a problem in the future. We dug a pit at tree line around 1830m and had no significant or scary results with our tests in any deeper layers. We felt comfortable skiing steep lines in the alpine - but the poor visibility and flat light kept us out of there for all but one lap. The best riding was in north facing trees today.
