-18 start. The trail conditions going up to the flatter and more open valley bottom(and therefore back down!) are a bit thin and sketchy on the descent. Needs more snow to fill over roots and rocks. Higher up, we found good powder, boot deep, on top of supportive layer. On steeper terrain and above tree line, the supportive layer comes to the surface occasionally in the form of a more icy interface. And the more recent snow has not bonded to it.
