The upper 30 to 40 cm of the snowpack consists of a few thin crusts that have been deteriorating during last week's cold nights and turned into 10 to 15 cm thick layers of facets. They run like sugar through your fingers. Beware of any load settling on those ball bearings. Should be an interesting avalanche weekend. Wait until we know how this coming precipitation shapes up and how it bonds. Be patient, let things settle, folks. I know the lure of fresh powder will be strong. Stay safe out there.
