At Mear Lake North of Elkford at 2000 m there was 90 cm total snow depth in a sheltered treeline area. 40 cm of that is storm snow from the last 24 hours. This new snow is sitting on moist, rain-soaked snow from the recent precipitation and seems to be bonding well to this layer. Below this, we have a layer of large sugary facets that don’t have much strength. We had two reactive snowpack tests ECTP 15 down 80 cm on size 2 facets) that remind us that we are not out of the woods in this area yet.
