Avalanche Activity

The avalanche bulletin for the 2025-26 season ends today. We'll continue to keep you updated with the Aineva blogs - https://bollettini.aineva.it/blog. Moist and wet avalanches are the main danger.

The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information, so that the avalanche danger should be investigated especially thoroughly in the relevant locality. On Sunday it will be cloudy. Uncertain surface refreezing of snow is possible. This will be localized and influenced by the thickness and altitude of clouds overnight. This variable could impact hiking. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust only at high altitudes and will soften during the day. The danger of moist and wet avalanches will increase but remain within the current danger level. As a consequence of warming during the day more wet snow slides and avalanches are possible as the day progresses, even medium-sized ones, caution is to be exercised in particular on extremely steep north facing slopes below approximately 3100 m, and on very steep east, south and west facing slopes at intermediate and high altitudes. Restraint should be exercised because avalanches can sweep people along and give rise to falls.

Snowpack Structure

In the last few days the weather was mild. This situation gave rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack below approximately 2900 m. As a consequence of highly fluctuating temperatures the snowpack consolidated. On extremely steep slopes only isolated avalanches were reported. The amount of snow is subject to significant local variations. Especially on sunny slopes below approximately 2600 m no snow is lying. On shady slopes below the tree line hardly any snow is lying. On shady slopes above the tree line snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Individual weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack in particular in high Alpine regions.

Tendency

Unsettled weather from Monday to Wednesday. Slight increase in danger of dry and wet avalanches as a consequence of new snow and wind. By Wednesday mostly small wind slabs will form in particular in high Alpine regions. Individual avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas. Restraint should be exercised because avalanches can sweep people along and give rise to falls. As a consequence of warming during the day wet snow slides and avalanches are possible as the day progresses, even medium-sized ones.
